Andanar defends Brillante Mendoza’s SONA shots, says they were perfect

As expected, presidential communications office secretary Martin Andanar — the same man who said that Duterte’s speech was going to be around 38-minutes long (it was about 90 minutes) and that it had made him cry (the public felt differently) — has come to the defense of Brillante Mendoza’s polarizing gig as director of yesterday’s SONA.

Comments were mixed about Mendoza’s SONA directorial gig, with some netizens saying that high and low camera angles used during Duterte’s address were unusual and unnecessary.

Andanar thinks differently, however, saying that he was satisfied with Mendoza’s work.

“If you watch it on television, perfect,” Andanar told Patricia Lourdes Viray of the Philippine Star. (As opposed to watching it on a computer screen?)

He added that Mendoza had more shots and angles in mind for the Duterte, but the Presidential Security Group did not allow the director to execute them.

Andanar also expressed satisfaction with Mendoza’s work in his interview in GMA’s morning program Unang Hirit on Tue, Jul 26.

“Okay naman, very (simple) yung pag-portray or pag-direct ng ating director Mendoza. Iba yung visual representation natin sa ating pangulo,”

(It’s okay, Mendoza’s direction is very simple. He gave a different visual representation of our president.)

And his reaction to those who didn’t appreciate Mendoza’s SONA shots?

“Well, some of them won’t like it but they have to be Brillante Mendoza first,” Andanar quipped.

Erm, okay! #PaAndanar
