Andanar clarifies: Duterte doesn’t need to attend Trump inauguration

The meeting of President Rodrigo Duterte and incoming US President Donald Trump would have to wait.

In an interview on dzBB on Sun, Jan 15, Presidential Communications Office chief Martin Andanar explained that Duterte won’t attend the inauguration of incoming US President Donald Trump on Jan 20.

“It is not customary for heads of states to attend the US inauguration because it is a domestic event,” Andanar was quoted as saying.

“Later on, in an interview with reporters in Davao City, Andanar said he and National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon would attend Trump’s inauguration,” reports Alexis Romero on Philstar.com.
