Andal Ampatuan Sr. died Friday night, July 17, 2015, Inquirer.net reports.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce to the public that former Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. has passed away a few minutes ago,” the family’s lawyer Ferdinand Topacio said in a statement.
They will treat his body according to Islamic tradition.
On Thursday, July 16, we reported that Andal Sr., has been in a coma. His detained relatives were brought to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute the day before, on Wednesday July 15, where he has been confined because of liver cancer since June 5.
Andal Sr., is one of the principal suspects in the Nov 2009 Maguindanao massacre that killed 58 people.
