Ampatuan grandson requests aircon in jail cell, cites skin problems

Anwar Ampatuan Jr, grandson of the late Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr, is one of the suspects of the Nov 2009 Maguindanao massacre where 58 Filipinos were kidnapped and murdered.

He is currently detained in the Quezon City Jail Annex in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

Now, Anwar Jr. has problems about where he currently stays. He claimed to be suffering from shortness of breath and skin allergies due allegedly to the temperature inside the jail.

Thus, he has requested that he be allowed to bring a portable air conditioner inside his cell “for medical purposes.”

On Apr 25, Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 221 already denied Anwar Jr’s request. So, he filed a motion for reconsideration.

“To prevent a more severe reaction on the skin of the accused which can cause an outbreak and to alleviate the breathing difficulties, it is humbly requested from this Court to allow the accused to bring in a portable air [conditioning unit] to his detention cell.”

If he was expecting another answer, then he must be very disappointed now.

“In the Jun 13 order signed by Judge Genie Gapas-Agbada, the court denied Anwar Jr’s motion for reconsideration for failure to submit evidence to prove his claim,” reports Tetch Torres-Tupas on Inquirer.net.

The court explained, “He failed to submit a medical certification to validate his claim that he is suffering from shortness of breath and skin allergies.”
