Amid Christmas traffic shitshow, Lalamove warns users not to book their cars for ‘transporting people’

It’s no secret that the Christmas rush has made Manila’s traffic and commuter situation even more dismal. Coconuts just wrote about commuter’s horror stories such as four-hour wait times and overcharging cabs amid the season, while journalist Atom Araullo went viral for lamenting about the lack of transportation available from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport — a sore point for many Overseas Filipino Workers slated to arrive home for the holidays.

With the lousy state of transportation such as a lack of ride-sharing options plying the roads, people have taken matters into their own hands — such as booking rides from delivery apps like Lalamove, who offer cars as one of the vehicles to transport goods.

Yet the situation has apparently gotten out of hand that the app had to issue an official warning that their app is not to be used as an alternative to ride-sharing apps such as Grab.

“Reminder: Lalamove is not licensed to transport people,” Lalamove wrote in an email blast to its users on Tuesday.

“Please be informed that our accredited delivery vehicles are not licensed to transport people, only items for delivery,” the app reminded its users. “Our Lalamove Bossings have the right to refuse since this is illegal and is not allowed on our platform.”

“Let us help each other by allowing our partner drivers to focus on fulfilling your Christmas rush deliveries,” it ended its email, adding a link to its delivery guidelines.
