American national spits at airline employees, detained overnight at NAIA-2

On Thu night, Feb 11, police officers assigned at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 detained an American man overnight because he got violent towards some airline employees.

“The 31-year-old American was late for his Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight for Los Angeles and was visibly angry when he learned he could no longer board the plane because the designated check-in counter for his flight was already closed,” reports Rudy Santos in The Philippine Star.

Apparently, the American was not content with the explanation given by passenger service agent Janel Pecson, passenger service manager Wilbert Banzuela, and supervisor Adelma Dayrit. So, he cursed at them. He then threw his passport in front of Banzuela and suddenly spit on Banzuela and Dayrit.

Police Officer 3 Crismael Dario said that it was at this point that Banzuela called his attention. He placed the American under arrest, but not before the guy had spit on Banzuela a second time.

The American was brought to the Aviation Security Group’s office. However, he was released after the airline employees failed to show up for his inquest proceedings on Fri, Feb 12.

He would have been charged with slander by deed and unjust vexation, police said.
