Alleged photo-grabber will be tried by UP student disciplinary tribunal

Whatever happened to Mark Joseph Solis, the student who won a photographer competition using a photo he passed off as his?

“The Executive Committee of the University of the Philippines Diliman has approved the filing of a case before the Student Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) against public administration student Mark Joseph Solis,” a report by the Philippine Star said.

UP Diliman Chancellor Caesar Saloma told the paper it ordered the filing of the case before the tribunal on Oct. 21 after reviewing the results of the investigation done by the National College of Public Administration and Governance (NCPAG).

The NCPAG brought the case to Saloma’s office, saying it was in a better position to resolve the matter. The investigation discovered that Solis entered at least seven competitions using photos he nicked online.

Penalties for such a case range from a one-year suspension, dishonorable dismissal, to the withdrawal of person’s degree by the university.
