MANILA, Philippines – The Alaska Aces will battle Barangay Ginebra in a crucial contest that will decide who gets the last spot in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Wednesday night at the Araneta Coliseum.
A win for the Aces will mean that they advance to the playoffs with the eighth spot, but a loss will hand the final playoff berth to the GlobalPort Batang Pier.
Meanwhile, Ginebra is battling for positioning, as a win will put them in sixth place and in a best-of-three series in the quarter-finals.
If Ginebra loses, they drop to either the seventh or eighth spot, and will be up against one of the top two seeds who will have a twice-to-beat advantage.
Game time is at 7 p.m.
Ginebra arguably has momentum on its side as the Kings are coming off a 96-81 victory over GlobalPort, while Alaska lost its most recent game, 93-101, to Talk ‘N Text.
In the first game, the Meralco Bolts will try to end a two-game skid and enter the quarter-finals on a winning note as they face off against the already-eliminated Blackwater.
“We already qualified for the playoffs, so our placing wouldn’t really be a problem,” said Meralco coach Norman Black. “We’ll be ready, for sure.”
Game time is at 4:15 p.m.
