On Mon, Jan 11, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) authorities caught three airport taxi drivers using fake dollar fare rate cards.
“The lowest figure on the fake dollar rate card is USD$25 (approximately PHP1,100) for a trip to Baclaran while the highest was at USD$140 (approximately over PHP6,600) for a ride to Olongapo City,” reports Jeannette I. Andrade in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
MIAA general manager Jose Angel Honrado clarified that neither they nor the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) had approved any dollar rate card for airport-accredited taxis. There is no such thing.
That said, the MIAA has given the LTFRB the permission to crack down on unscrupulous airport cabbies.
The LTFRB will start conducting random taxi inspections at the Ninoy Aquino International Aiport (NAIA) starting Wed, Jan 13.
