Airport authorities crack down on ‘Kalabit-Pahingi’ Gang

Don’t you just hate it when scammers flock to you at the airport?

“The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has intensified its efforts to stop the so-called ‘Kalabit-Pahingi’ operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) complex,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

MIAA has gotten many complaints from airport users who have been victims of their “solicitation techniques.”

Jose Angel Honrado, MIAA General Manager, was quoted as saying, “Since June 2 to 16, our elite team from the Light Reaction Section (LRS) of the Airport Police Department (APD) apprehended a total of eighty five (85) individuals preying mostly on travelers and well-wishers in the Terminal parking lots, greeters area and major thoroughfares leading to NAIA.”

The report revealed that one “Kalabit-Pahingi” Gang member identified as Maricel Dela Cruz Laraya even “kicked, badmouthed, and spat on the face of an airport official who refused her entry to the NAIA parking lot.”

The minors in the group were turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
