Aguirre: ‘I can’t be corrupted, so drug lords hired somebody to kill me for PHP50 million’

What does it feel like when there’s a price on your head? Well, this guy seems to be taking it in stride.

Speaking to ANC on Wed, Jul 20, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II revealed that drug lords are offering a PHP50 million bounty on his head after he refused to take a huge bribe.

“Aguirre said he had received information that drug lords tried to pool their resources to offer him a PHP100 million bribe,” reports ABS-CBN News.

Aguirre explained: “Big drug lords have already wanted to pool their resources so they can offer me PHP100 million but they could not offer [that to] me because I can’t be corrupted and so they hired somebody to kill me for PHP50 million. The threat is very fresh.”

The Justice chief went on to announce that over 300 members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) have taken over the security posts at the New Bilibid Prison on Wed, Jul 20. This is in line with the Duterte administration’s bid to eliminate alleged drug rings in the national penitentiary.

“[The takeover] could take months, actually, because we are going to take out every guard and almost all employees except those that are indispensable in the running day-to-day activities of the [Bureau of Corrections] and all of them will undergo training, more than 200 of them and re-education,” Aguirre said.
