This seems to be an ongoing trend.

A construction worker was arrested in Boracay, in the town of Malay, Aklan last night after offering a PHP100 million (US$1.9 million) bounty to any person willing to kill President Rodrigo Duterte.

“To anyone who can kill Duterte, I will double the PHP50 million, and make it PHP100 million. You can find me in Boracay…” wrote the 40-year-old suspect named Ronald Quiboyen in a Facebook post.

Quiboyen was arrested a few hours after a public school teacher in Zambales was nabbed by authorities yesterday for offering a PHP50 million (US$993,900) bounty on Twitter to anyone who can kill the president. The teacher said he posted his tweet because he wanted to gain more clout on social media.

Details of Quiboyen’s motivations remain unclear.

Boracay police said they learned about Quiboyen’s post at about 3pm after several residents on the island shared it; authorities arrested the suspect at around 7pm in his residence at Sitio Hagdan in Yapak village.

The suspect has been turned over to Aklan’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit, as he awaits charges for allegedly violating Article 142 of the Revised Penal Code, or inciting to sedition.
