MANILA, Philippines – The Purefoods Hotshots will have a few days to rest and recover after wrapping up their elimination round campaign in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup with a 96-85 victory over Meralco last Friday.

The win was Purefoods’ fourth in a row and put them at the top of the league standings with an 8-3 record, though their Top Two spot is still in limbo with Rain or Shine and Talk ‘N Text playing Sunday.

“Ito ‘yung chance namin na makapag-pahinga,” Purefood’s superstar James Yap told PBA.ph. “Kumbaga, recovery.”

“Sa Monday, balik-practice naman kami, so focus lang. Ngayong weekend, pahinga lang talaga, kalimutan ang basketball,” he added.

“Sa Monday, practice na ulit.”

Purefoods have yet to know who they will play in the quarter-finals or even if they will finish with a twice-to-beat advantage.

But Yap said the team was not particularly concerned with their seeding.

“Di namin ine-aim ang number one,” he said. “Gitna lang, okay na kami eh. Bonus na lang kung number one or two kami.”

“‘Yung defense pa rin talaga ang importante,” he stressed.

Yap said their dip in form in the previous conference – which saw their string of four straight championships come to an end – was a wake-up call.

“Maganda lang sa team ngayon, naka-focus kami lahat,” he said. “‘Di pwedeng mag-relax. Ngayon, focus talaga kami.”
