If you haven’t received your COVID-19 vaccine yet, perhaps this should convince you to get one immediately: the Philippines just recorded its fourth Omicron case in an individual who arrived from the United States earlier this month.
According to DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vegeire, the traveler, a 38-year-old woman, arrived in the country on December 10 through Philippine Airlines PR127. The individual reported having an itchy throat and colds by December 13, and was discharged on December 24 after 10 days in isolation.
The woman is isolated at home and asymptomatic, and is scheduled to be re-tested.
Meanwhile, a medical consultant for the National Task Force Against COVID-19 has urged Filipinos to get vaccinated immediately after the new case was detected.
“We should urge more to get vaccinated in preparation for its possible spread in the country,” Dr. Ma. Paz Corrales said, adding that the Omicron variant is highly transmissible and is now spreading in countries like the United States, the UK, and Australia.
Although early studies show that the Omicron variant is more infectious than Delta, the Delta variant still accounts for most of the local cases in the country.
