After more than two years, PNP arrests ‘torturer’ cop

A former member of Manila’s Finest who was dismissed from the service after being caught on video torturing an alleged thief more than two years ago was arrested on Monday morning.

Members of the Philippine National Police-Intelligence Group arrested dismissed police officer Joselito Binayug in Tayuman, Manila for violating the Anti-Torture Act.

He was dismissed from the service in 2011 after a police task force identified him as the policeman in a video showing Darius Evangelista, a suspected thief, being tortured while in police custody. The video, captured on a mobile phone, was aired on national television in 2010.

InterAksyon reports Binayug “was later found to be teaching at a college for aspiring policemen.”
