Actor-politician Alfred Vargas’ mother-in-law beaten up by woman inside QC bank

On Dec 29, the mother-in-law of actor and Quezon City 5th District Rep. Alfred Vargas, 64-year-old Nerissa Espiritu, was at the Banco de Oro branch in Barangay Valencia, Quezon City.

“Espiritu was about to sit on a chair reserved for the elderly when another bank client, Cynthia Huang, 37, grabbed the chair and sat on it,” reports Robertzon Ramirez in The Philippine Star.

Espiritu protested, but Huang refused to give up the seat.

The report noted: “At the height of their argument, Huang allegedly slapped Espiritu several times. Huang then took a piece of acrylic glass that had a leaflet insert and hit Espiritu with it.”

Cubao police station commander Superintendent Marlou Martinez said Espiritu suffered injuries and was taken to the UERM Memorial Hospital for treatment, while Huang was accosted by the bank’s security guards and turned over to the police.

When asked about what happened, Huang refused to comment.

Police are now coordinating with the management of the bank to review the footage of the incident caught on a closed-circuit television camera.
