The officer-in-charge (OIC) or acting principal of a public school in Badian, Cebu was recently caught sniffing shabu during a buy-bust operation.

On Tue afternoon, May 26, Reynante Alinabon — who has been designated as the OIC principal of Santicon Elementary School — was caught with four others during a buy-bust operation conducted by the Provincial Intelligence Branch of Cebu Provincial Police Office.

The four other suspects were midentified as Niño James Pondoc, Salvador Pallero Sr., Isagani Bontilao, and Baltazar Bontilao.

According to Senior Inspector Leo Logronio, it was Pondoc who was the primary target of the operation, as his residence was known as a “drug den” by town residents.

A report by ABS-CBN News Central Visayas correspondent Joworski Alipon revealed that police also found several packs of illegal drugs worth PHP150,000 in Pondoc’s home.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) is doing its own fact-finding investigation on the matter involving Alinabon.

Because of Alipon’s case, the DepEd is now planning to hold random surprise drug testing for teachers.

The report cited Dr. Arden Monisit, Cebu schools division superintendent, who explained that while there has been no memorandum issued with regards to drug testing for teachers, they are already coordinating with the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CPADAC) to decide on moves that will keep schools drug-free.

For his part, CPADAC executive director Joey Herrera said they are willing to work on drug prevention programs with DepEd.
