No woman deserves this.
A woman who escaped from her partner after allegedly a month of violent beatings was brought to a hospital by her neighbors in Purok 2, Barangay Maria Cristina.
The woman, 24-year-old “Janine” (real name withheld), said she managed to escape when her partner for over a year, Mark Steven “Kevin” Abatayo untied her and left when she passed out.
Janine alleged that Abatayo tied, gagged, starved, and hit her every day since last month, for no apparent reason. She has a broken arm, cuts on the neck, and deep wounds in her head.
According to Janine, Abatayo banged her head against a tree, stuck burning wood into her mouth, hit her with a scabbard, and tried to insert wood into her genitals.
“He told me that he dug a hole where he would bury me,” Janine said.
She claimed no one knew about her abusive relationship because their shanty was approximately 200 meters uphill from their nearest neighbor. Abatayo’s father knew about her condition, but only scolded his son and did nothing to stop him, Janine said.
SPO1 Joe Anne Acosta from the city police’s Women’s Desk said Janine filed a case against Abatayo in November last year after he attacked her and broke her fingers, which she blamed for the loss of her baby.
“The case, however, was dismissed when the complainant failed to appear before the fiscal,” Acosta said.
Janine’s father said they were unable to attend the hearing because they were not summoned to the court.
Abatayo remains at large.
