ABS-CBN: Signal loss is GMA’s fault

Here’s an interesting plot twist in the ongoing network war. Amid the much-publicized controversy on signal loss during the noontime show Eat Bulaga!, ABS-CBN hits back at GMA saying the Kapuso Network may want to check their own signal first.

In a statement posted on ABS-CBN News, the Kapamilya network is asking the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to require GMA to explain the loss of their own signal, saying they have the incident on record. The letter is a response to five complaints that have been filed against ABS-CBN for alleged “irresponsible acts” that led to the disruption.

“Upon careful monitoring, ABS-CBN actually recorded an episode of signal loss from GMA [that leads] to signal loss experienced by the TVPlus box,” the statement said.

In short? It’s probably GMA itself that’s having tech troubles.

GMA had alleged the persistent signal disruptions were meant to put a dent in the ratings of Eat Bulaga!, which features the phenomenal “Kalyeserye” segment starring Alden Richards and Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza.

But ABS-CBN is absolving its “mahiwagang black box” of any untoward incidents, saying the box is just a “receiver”.

“The box itself cannot be a culprit in the signal loss since it is nothing more but a receiver, configured to detect, receive, and broadcast all available digital signals at any given time regardless of the provider (e.g. ABS-CBN, GMA, TV5) and so long as the provider is reliably transmitting such digital signals,” ABS-CBN said.

Earlier, SkyCable had also released a statement saying there was no network problem that could have caused signal loss be limited to only one channel.

The NTC has yet to respond to both networks, and complaints continue to pour in on social media. A quick check on Twitter still brings up a lot of recent reports of signal loss in various areas.

It seems there’s no end in sight for this issue anytime soon.
