The sad story of Blue, a bulldog left in the care of a veterinary clinic for four months after his owner did not pick him up, now has a happy ending (sort of) after the clinic decided to adopt him for good instead.
“Blue is now safely home in the care of PET911 Veterinary Clinic,” its page announced, adding that they made the decision after finally getting in touch with the dog’s owner, Michay Sasaki, after their initial post went viral and they tried to settle the matter through legal means.
The clinic alleges that Sasaki owes them outstanding fees amounting to PHP65,000 (US$1,191.85) after first bringing in Blue in December to be treated for a skin infection.
She left the dog with the clinic and promised to pick him up in January, but then later informed them she was out of the country and said she would pick him up the next month. March went by and she still had not gotten in touch.
The veterinary clinic scheduled a hearing through the mediation of local officials on April 2 in which Sasaki agreed in writing to pay her outstanding dues and “to take good care of Blue.” Yet Sasaki did not show up at 3pm on April 3, the agreed deadline for her to make her settlements.
“We followed up through series of SMS and Viber messages but she mocked us and unapologetically said that she is still outside Manila and she is currently busy. Clearly, she did not have any intention at all of going back to get Blue and settling her obligations. Instead of explaining and apologizing for breaching a legal agreement she resorted to threatening our senior veterinarian, putting our clinic in very serious harm,” the clinic alleged.
“We gave her chance to redeem herself in the name of fairness and to be a better pet parent to BLUE but it seems like she does not really care at all for the poor furbaby. As part of the agreement, if she failed to fulfill all of the agreed obligations, BLUE will be automatically put under the care of PET911 VETERINARY CLINIC.”
“Again, WE DON’T TOLERATE this kind of IRRESPONSIBLE PET PARENTHOOD. BLUE deserves better. Never get one if you can’t commit your 100% to provide a good life to your furbaby.BLUE is now safe from an irresponsible pet parent. He will be loved by PET911,” it added.
Those who followed Blue’s story closely treated this as a win, after initially imploring the clinic to simply adopt the dog and not return it to its owner.
“Thanks for listening to us and upholding your duties as animal welfare practitioners. I’m sorry to hear that your establishment had to encounter such a vile person, but it makes us happy to hear Blue is in a safe environment! More blessings to you guys and little Blue,” one commenter wrote.
“You’re in good hands now, Blue, I’m glad you weren’t returned to your owner, you deserve all the love,” another said.
Commenters also posted screenshots of Sasaki’s TikTok page, where she seemed to mock commenters that were asking her about her dog and called her out for abandoning Blue.
