Potholes are never fun for any motorist or commuter plying the road. And while the obvious solution would be to cover these holes with a fresh layer of asphalt or concrete, one town had a completely different idea: plant trees in their stead.

Photos of trees reportedly planted in the middle of a road in Oslob, Cebu made the rounds on social media, as posted by the page Cebu Flash Report.

“Tree planting [in] Oslob,” the page wrote — which led to mixed reactions from people, many of whom found the entire idea hilarious.

While others pointed out that it was a way to warn people about the danger that lies ahead, they found the sight of plants in the middle of the road pretty funny.

“If anything, it helps you avoid accidents,” one said.

“Imagine how green Cebu would be if they did this with all the potholes,” another jabbed.

“Good job, so proud of these people. This may look stupid but it could save another person’s life,” one quipped.

One user called it an “herbal early warning device.”

It is unclear whether this is a local government initiative or an idea cooked up by some resourceful citizens. Either way, it clearly did its job in covering up potholes.
