Twelve people aboard a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight PR113 from Los Angeles to Manila (via Honolulu, Hawaii) were injured after the plane suffered severe turbulence 2 hours before landing.
Nine passengers and three crew members were hurt and immediately taken to the hospital upon landing on Sunday night, according to a statement from a PAL representative.
As of Monday, one passenger remains confined at the hospital, while the others have been discharged.
The airline said that it was not able to issue an advance turbulence warning as it was not detected by the aircraft’s onboard weather radar system.
PAL said it will shoulder all medical expenses for the injured individuals.
“We affirm that safety is our top priority and that Philippine Airlines is fully cooperating with the concerned airport and aviation authorities,” the airline added.
