Year-end office Christmas parties are here, which means traditional raffle prizes are abound. But while most companies raffle off goodies like a flat-screen TV or microwave ovens to their employees in the spirit of gift-giving, local beauty brand Colourette took their raffle tradition up a notch by giving away five days of paid vacation leave to its employees.

Colourette CEO and online influencer Nina Cabrera shared on TikTok that they had given away the unique prize at the company’s recent Christmas party.

Replying to a follower who asked if the beauty brand boss held a raffle draw for their company’s Christmas party, Cabrera shared a snippet of the raffle from the event with the caption, “This was my favorite raffle prize as inspired by [attorney] Gideon!”

Cabrera was referring to lawyer Gideon Peña’s tweet, which went viral after he suggested that companies raffle off additional leaves to their employees instead.

“What would you do with a large TV if you’re always stuck in the office?” he said.

In the Colourette founder’s case, the additional five-day leave would apply on top of the lucky employee’s leave entitlements for 2023.

Cabrera’s video was a hit among her following.

“This is the new normal for companies who value and appreciate their employees,” one follower said.

“I hope this becomes a trend for other companies,” another gushed.

“Are you hiring, Ms. Nina?” one asked.

The brand’s gesture is definitely welcome, considering the Philippines’ dismal policies on employee leaves. Labor laws only require companies to offer five days of leave to employees who have been working for at least a year, known as a service incentive leave, that can be used for sick or vacation days.
