9 female sex workers rescued from Caloocan motel

Stories like this one make us doubt the statements about the Philippine being an economic tiger (or whatever animal spin doctors like to refer to).

“Nine female sex workers, four of whom were allegedly minors, were recently rescued from a motel in Caloocan City,” reports Francis Faulve on ABS-CBNnews.com.

What’s even more tragic is that some of the victims were said to be from calamity-hit areas such as Samar.

Atty. Eric Nuqui, chief National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Anti-Human Trafficking Division, was quoted as saying, “This is a form of re-victimization. They are victims of calamities and are being victimized again by heartless people.”

The report revealed that “the females were staying at a shanty near the motel while waiting for a customer to pick them up.” They were paid PHP500 for sex, but only PHP150 goes to the girl.

Five individuals who allegedly acted as pimps were arrested, while the rescued females were taken to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for counseling.
