9 dead, 15 injured after jeepney plunged into ravine in Albay

Nine people were killed while 15 others were injured after a passenger jeepney fell into a steep ravine in Libon town in Albay province yesterday.

Police said that the jeepney was carrying 30 passengersRadyo Inquirer reported.

A yellow jeepney with the plate number EVF366 driven by Rolando Olade, was traversing along the highway in Sitio Hulan­dig, Barangay (Village) San Jose at 3pm when the incident happened, the Philippine Star reported.

According to the police report, the driver lost control of the brake as he was navigating through a curved portion of the road, which led the vehicle to plummet into the 9-foot ravine, ABS-CBN News reported.

Other passengers reportedly managed to get off the jeepney before the accident and are in stable condition. Those injured were rushed to the Pantao District Hospital.

Authorities are now looking for the driver, who fled the scene after the crash.
