87-year-old businessman with narcolepsy falls asleep while driving, hits motorcycle of PSG member

The man reportedly has narcolepsy, a sleeping disorder which causes him to fall asleep all of a sudden.

“At around 9pm on Tuesday, Mar 11, 87-year-old businessman Benito Ong Yu had an attack of his sleeping disorder while he was driving his car somewhere in Manila,” reports ABS-CBN News correspondent Francis Faulve on TV Patrol.

Ong’s car hit the motorcycle in front of him, which was driven by Presidential Security Group (PSG) member Eli Valle.

Valle was surprised when he saw that Yu was fast asleep at the wheel. He said he initially thought the senior citizen was drunk. However, he saw that he was, indeed, just sleeping.

Yu said sorry for the incident. He also presented papers that presumably certified him as a narcoleptic. Valle has decided not to file charges against him. The police warned yu against driving on his own again.

What we want to say to the narcoleptic driver: “Yu should know better!”
