83 people arrested in raid near Golden Mosque in Quiapo

On Tue, Apr 5, 83 people were arrested during a drug raid near the Golden Mosque in Quiapo, Manila.

“Several Muslim community leaders sought police assistance after learning that a man named Ansoy Abas had been conducting drug deals near the mosque,” reports Rey Galupo in The Philippine Star.

The report noted: “Armed with a search warrant issued by a Manila court, police officers from the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 3 and the Plaza Miranda precinct staged the raid at around 6am in search of Abas and his gang but failed to find them. However, they chanced upon other drug dealers and users in the area.”

The cops seized at least 500 grams of shabu, with a street value of PHP2.5 million, as well as four firearms, including an Uzi submachine gun.

Out of 83 persons arrested, 18 were charged with illegal drug possession and illegal possession of firearms in relation to the election-related gun ban.
