8-year-old girl left behind in borrowed car dies of suffocation

There are a lot of things that don’t make sense in this story. Let’s hope a probe is done to determine what caused the child’s death.

On Wed evening, Jan 4, an 8-year-old girl named Janna Jacobe was found dead in the back of a car, which her family had borrowed from a relative.

GMA’s Unang Balita reported that Janna’s family members said they spent most of Tue evening, Jan 3, at a mall in Pasay City. They were able to go home at around 3am, Wed, Jan 4.

Joan Papa — a woman identified as  Janna’s stepmother — revealed that there were 10 of them packed the car they borrowed from a relative. She said they really didn’t notice that Janna had been left behind when they got out of the car and then returned it to their relative.

However, they later realized that Janna wasn’t at their home in Baseco Compound in Port Area, Manila. Joan said she asked the child who had been at the back of the car with Janna. The child reportedly told her that Janna had been asleep when they were in the car.

That was when they decided to once again go to their relative’s house and look inside the car. They found Janna already dead.

GMA News Online noted: “Based on initial investigation on the incident, the child died of suffocation. The authorities said the driver of the car may face a charge of negligence resulting to homicide.”
