#EDSAya is the kind of revolution that EDSA needs.
Perhaps it’s a bit too ambitious and massive, but it will solve EDSA traffic. It will also improve the Filipino mindset a thousandfold.
So what is #EDSAya, exactly?
In a nutshell, it’s a petition that pushes to pedestrianize EDSA. The project was initiated based on a self-funded study conducted by Archion architects.
Their urban design solution is actually plausible, but of course, they need the approval, help and funding of the government first.
So what do we need in order to pedestrianize EDSA? Here are their eight key ideas.
1. The pillar of the project is a 20-kilometer elevated, mono-column walkway from MOA to North EDSA. It will connect MRT stations, malls, buildings and business districts.
2. The walkway will have an eco-friendly design that will include bike lanes, walkalators in long stretches, rain water harvesting systems and a series of gardens.
3. For a nice Pinoy touch, the structure will use bamboo architecture.
4. It will have the world’s first “seatalator” to help those lugging around trollies and packages. This will also be helpful for senior citizens and PWDs.
5. Public pay toilets will be strategically located in several stops.
6. There will be police and emergency stations to make pedestrians feel safe and secure.
7. To keep air clean, even building gardens will be regulated.
8. Wind microturbines will generate energy for the project.
If you want #EDSAya to materialize, sign the petition now. It needs to garner 50,000 signatures.
We hope that it gains enough traction for the government to notice.
