7 year-old Pinoy is new Chess wonder

A seven-year-old boy from Pasig City holds the distinction of being the youngest FIDE Master at the 14th ASEAN + Age Group Chess Championships 2013 Standard competition at the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Alekhine Nouri, along with the boys’ Philippine team of Under-8, also won the gold in Blitz and Standard Event with James Henry Calacday, Michael Concio, Jerish John Velarde.

Nouri is first grader at the FEU-FERN College in Quezon City. He fought the final round against Mongolia’s Luvsandorj Orgilbold to garner eight total points to victory at the Open 8-under class, Interaksyon.com reported.
