Six brand new riverine patrol boats have arrived at the Philippine Marine headquarters on Thursday.
The 40-foot US made boats were manufactured by aluminum vessel manufacturer Silver Ships. The six boats are part of the US-facilitated Foreign Military Sales program. The boats were ordered back in 2011. However, transport and freight problems pushed the delivery from May to August this year.
These patrol boats will be used in shallow water operations, but the vessels are also capable of crossing open waters.
A riverine patrol has a 10-foot, eight-inch beam, a two-feet draft, center console configuration, bow ramp for troops’ embarkation, three weapon mounts for machine guns and grenade launchers, the Philippine Star reported.
