There’s a posher version of Bangkal’s dusty segunda mano shops and it’s called 6 Planet.
Opening for business just a few weeks ago, it now has hundreds of cast-offs—a wild mix of furniture, artworks, home décor, dinnerware, glassware and whatnot, many of them vintage and all pre-owned.
“Think of it as an estate sale, though one of the business owners calls it a ‘glorified garage sale’,” reports Cheche Moral in Philippine Daily Inquirer. “The other describes it ‘a nice Bangkal,’ referring to the area in Makati City where you find rows of stores selling cheap furniture, vintage items, and antiques.”
“We were simply talking about unloading things and doing a sale,” says Trish Chua-Juico, editor of the magazine Metro Weddings, in the report. “Erica and her husband Francis just moved to a new home and they had a lot of accumulated stuff which they needed to get rid of.”
As it turned out, other friends also had things to unload.
Customers will find pieces priced as low as PHP200. Some paintings or a big dining table will set you back between PHP50,000 and PHP65,000, although prices aren’t fixed for the big-ticket items. Bargaining, the owners say, is welcome.
