6 people injured in NLEX bus crash

When will we ever learn?

“A Santrans Bus heading for Meycauayan, Bulacan, accidentally tilted to its side while leaving the Balintawak Toll Plaza along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Valenzuela City at around 4pm on Tuesday, Dec 24,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The six people injured in the accident were identified as Medrielyn and Alexander Belmonte; Flordeliza and Raffy Callao; and Jason and Eleanor Vidal.

Santrans driver Kim Reyes’ excuse was that he “lost control of the bus when the engine suddenly died” so he “stepped on the brakes but the bus rammed into the concrete barrier before flipping onto its side.”

However, authorities pointed out that the bus’ rear tires were already worn out and unsafe for travel.

We suggest quarterly check-ups of bus conditions and awarding of certificates that should be posted on the windshield (A for excellent condition, D for ride at your own risk).
