570 drug users in Pasig made to attend ‘spiritual retreat’

We only have one word for this: “Amen!”

To inspire them to change their ways, 570 confessed drug users in Pasig City were hauled by the police to the Community Baptist Church on Sat, Jul 16.

There they were made to listen to inspirational songs and testimonies by former drug users.

Some of those who happened to experiment with drugs when they were minors went on to become policemen.

“But what got the audience’s attention were the testimonies of policemen and one of the lecturers who admitted to drug use,” reports Jodee A. Agoncillo on Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The program, fashioned like a spiritual retreat, kicked off with a magic show and lectures on illegal drugs, criminal cases that awaited users and pushers, and what is to be expected after their surrender.

Senior Supt. Jose Hidalgo Jr emphasized that Pasig was offering a total drug rehabilitation program with spiritual, social and financial intervention.

“Some people surrender because they [read in the] newspapers that they will die if they do not surrender. No. You are not surrendering to me. You are changing for yourself, your family. Do it for yourself,” he told them.
