50 Metro Manila bishops, monsignors take social media class

Is it such a good idea to expose bishops and priests to social media?

“Sean-Patrick Lovett, a program director with Vatican Radio, flew in from Rome to lead the Social Media 101 seminar for 50 of the Philippines’ top bishops and monsignors in Manila earlier this month,” reports Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Inquirer.net.

The report revealed that “the class involved teaching the clergymen, some of them in their 70s, simply how to use the Internet, set up Facebook and Twitter accounts and, most importantly, how to make their messages worth reading.”

Lovett likewise disclosed, “Some bishops said to me, ‘I’m afraid I might become addicted to Facebook.'”

Well, maybe there should be a Facebook exorcism ritual.
