Not a great way to start a morning.

Up to 50 people are now injured after a bus they were riding collided with a truck in a Luzon highway earlier today.

The incident happened in the northbound side of the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) in the Concepcion, Tarlac area.

North Luzon Expressway traffic management chief Robin Ignacio told Radyo Inquirer that the bus was completely destroyed after it rammed the back of the truck which was carrying a container van.

Ignacio said there were about 50 people inside the bus, including the driver, according to GMA News. The passengers were mostly government employees, Radyo Inquirer reported.

Almost all the passengers were wounded, ABS-CBN News said.

Three passengers who were badly injured were rushed to a hospital, the same GMA News story states.

“Initial investigation shows that the bus was really going fast while the truck was at 60kph,” Ignacio said in Filipino.

According to reports, authorities suspect that the bus driver may have fallen asleep when he hit the truck.
