A 5-year-old girl was found dead inside a recycled rice sack in Santa Cruz, Laguna, on Sunday.

Authorities identified the suspect as Glenn Ford Manzanero, 30, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported. According to police, Manzanero was one of the girl’s neighbors in Barangay (or village) Patimbao.

Before her body was found, the girl was last seen playing outside her home, GMA News’ Balitambayan reported. Santa Cruz police chief Col. Armie Agbuya told the Inquirer that witnesses said they saw the girl leave with Manzanero.

The suspect allegedly lured the victim inside his home by offering her an iced dessert.

Police said the girl’s dead body was found by one of Manzanero’s relatives inside a recycled rice sack at about 9pm on Sunday inside the suspect’s house, ABS-CBN News reported.

“The relative of (Manzanero) asked him, ‘What’s inside the bag?’ And the suspect said, “There’s a girl inside,'” Agbuya told Inquirer.

The suspect allegedly killed the victim using a knife and a screwdriver.

Police arrested Manzanero, who allegedly confessed that he committed the crime. The suspect allegedly told authorities he didn’t know what he was doing because he did it when he was high on illegal drugs. He also denied sexually assaulting the victim.

Authorities will conduct an autopsy on the victim’s body. Meanwhile, the police have filed murder charges against Manzanero.
