Five rescuers in Bulacan were killed amid the destruction of Typhoon “Karding” while conducting rescue operations in the town of San Miguel, officials confirmed.

Town mayor Roderick Tiongson said confirmed the sad news during a public briefing this morning. He said the victims were members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and had been deployed on a rescue mission to flood-hit villages in the area.

The mayor said the five men died after a flash flood caused a wall to collapse on them.

He added that the government will extend assistance to the bereaved families.

Netizens regarded the rescuers as heroes.

“We are grateful for their courage and selflessness. Prayers for their souls and condolences to their families,” one comment read.

“Not all heroes wear capes. I salute all five of you. Condolences to your families,” another wrote.

“My heartfelt sympathies to those our heroes left behind,” one said.
