At least one of the injured females in the Ayala Center Cebu cinema roof collapse on Tuesday night may need to stay longer in hospital.

Five people remain in confinement and “one female is hurt badly with nine stitches,” according to Mark Evans, CEO of Dreamscape Networks.

“She had concussion and back pain from where the ceiling hit her. She will remain longer in hospital as she is feeling a lot of pain,” he told Coconuts Manila.

Yesterday he mentioned that the IT company was “looking for a legal representative today to assess our options”

Dreamscape had hired the mall’s Cinema 5, located at a newly built extension, for a private company event. At around 8:49pm, he says they heard an explosion and saw sparks go off.

“There was a very loud rumble, before water was heard, and a few drops were felt from below. At that moment, water then began gushing in a torrent from the ceiling, soaking everyone in their seats,” he recalls.

Eventually the lights went out and two-thirds of the ceiling collapsed and fell on the seats below, injuring people.

In a statement on its Facebook page yesterday, Ayala Center Cebu clarified that what fell were “portions of the acoustic board drop ceiling.”

Of the nine people wounded, five were taken to a hospital, it said.

It also assured the public that “safety of our customers continues to be a top priority in the mall.”
