This is shocking.

“Five members of a group from the University of the Philippines (UP)-Manila were found dead while six are still missing after they were swept away by strong currents in Nagsasa Creek in San Jose, Tarlac on Monday afternoon, August 31,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

Cha Mallari of the Region 3 Office of the Civil Defense explained that “the victims were crossing the creek at around 3 p.m. when the water swelled and a strong current swept them away.”

Mallari said that the five victims “were part of a group of 55 mountaineers from the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila who were set to conduct an outreach program in the area.”

As of 4:09pm on Mon, Aug 31, the authorities were still confirming the identities of the victims.
