5 arrested in Pque anti-jueteng drive

We’re sure there’s bigger fish to fry, but this is still a welcome development.

“Five alleged illegal gambling personnel were arrested over the weekend by lawmen in a raid at a suspected jueteng joint in Parañaque City,” reports Non Alquitran on Philstar.com.

The suspects are Willie Santos, Reynaldo Cataga, Celestino Sta. Maria, Ramon Tumalad, and Jaime Whitt. Police operatives from Task Force Tugis recovered PHP13,000 in bets and an unlicensed handgun.

After several weeks of surveillance, the suspects were arrested at a parking lot of a fastfood chain on Sucat Road.

“The suspects were conducting the draw of winning bets inside a vehicle. They tried but failed to escape as they were surrounded,” the report quotes senior superintendent Ronald Lee.

Illegal gambling charges will be filed against them, as well as illegal possession of firearms.
