This sort of good news doesn’t really have immediate impact. People will probably say, “We’ll believe it when it happens.”
“According to the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), the Chinese supplier of the new train coaches for the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 will start delivering the 48 light rail vehicles (LRVs) in tranches starting in the second half of 2015,” reports Kris Bayos in the Manila Bulletin.
The DOTC has ordered Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co. Ltd. CNR Group (Dalian) to proceed with the contract right after the Makati City Regional Trial Court dismissed the case filed by private owners of the MRT-3 system.
The report noted that Dalian is to “design, supply, and deliver the 48 LRVs with on-board communication system, automatic train protection, and train stimulator for the price of PHP3.759 billion.”
So, as the report added, “once the new LRVs are commissioned into the MRT 3 system, the current three-car configuration of train sets arriving every three minutes will be improved to four-car configuration that will arrive every 2.5 minutes to serve more passengers.”
All we have to do is suffer until then.
