Twin blasts rocked Jolo, Sulu today, reportedly killing four soldiers and two civilians.
The first explosion occurred at about 11:54am along Serrantes Street in the village of Walled City. The second explosion happened at about 1pm near the Development Bank of the Philippines located in the same village.
Senator Richard Gordon, who heads the Philippine Red Cross, tweeted that the first explosion came from a motorcycle “loaded” with improvised explosive devices. The Red Cross has treated “1 female civilian with abrasion on left foot and has set up First Aid and Welfare Station for assistance,” he said.

He added that the organization is currently coordinating with the local government of Jolo and “pre-positioned blood supply for possible use. All nearby Red Cross chapters are already activated and on full alert.”

Philippine National Police Chief General Archie Gamboa said in a statement that he has directed Jolo police to secure the crime scenes and “make all [the] perpetrators accountable” in connection with the twin explosions.
Civilian conflicts often occur in Jolo, the site of a 2019 church bombing that left at least 21 people dead.
