A shanty in Barangay 186, Tala, Caloocan City burned down Sunday night, killing three children and their grandmother. The cause of the fire was traced to an unattended candle. Eufamia Cuadra, 56, and her granchildren Emmalyn 4, Rebecca 2, and Alexandra Samosa, 1, were burned beyond recognition when their bodies were found.
The fire was put out immediately by neighbors in the depressed area. The children’s mother was not at home at the time, although she swore that she put out the candle and kerosene lamp before going out. The children’s father is a security guard at Funeraria Uno. He only learned of his family’s tragedy when the bodies were brought to the funeral home, the Philippine Star reported.
