4 cops arrested for drinking, gambling in Quezon City

Four cops were arrested last night after they were seen drinking and gambling in an eatery in Quezon City.

Three of those arrested were cops working at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Health Service, namely Staff Sergeant Erwin Gobis, Senior Master Sergeant Demetrio Laroya, and Corporal Ariel Pasion. The other officer, Staff Sergeant Gerry Ocampo, works at the PNP Crime Laboratory, reported Remate.

They were arrested by members of the PNP-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), a unit dedicated to running after misbehaving cops.

Aside from those four men, the PNP-IMEG also arrested PNP civilian staff Leo Ocinar, former cop Fidel Agustin, and Teddy Carpio, allegedly the owner of the establishment where the cops were arrested, reported GMA News.

All the men were arrested at 10pm last night on 3rd Avenue in the village of Bagong Lipunan in Cubao. There, the PNP-IMEG found bet money, two television sets, a digital video recorder for a closed-circuit television camera, a roll of betting tickets, two digital boxes, and 23 bottles of wine, reported The Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The PNP-IMEG said they arrested the cops after receiving reports that they often hang out at the dining establishment to drink and gamble.

Those arrested will be charged with violating illegal gambling laws. The cops will also be charged for violating President Rodrigo Duterte’s order that prohibits them from drinking in public spaces. In January, Duterte warned all cops that they are not allowed to drink in public.
