Is this for real?
“Officials and employees of 31 government-owned and -controlled corporations (GOCCs) have been ordered to refund the government all bonuses and allowances they gave to their executives totaling PHP2.313 billion whose payment in 2012 was deemed unauthorized by the Commission on Audit (COA),” reports Cynthia D. Balana in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Below are the top 10 agencies on COA’s “return list” and the corresponding amounts they have to give back:
1. Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) — PHP1,651,084,000
2. Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) — PHP216,801,000
3. Region 7 water districts — PHP186,584,000
4. Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office — PHP54,829,000
5. Philippine Economic Zone Authority — PHP48,500,000
6. Home Development Mutual Fund — PHP37,636,000
7. Butuan City Water District — PHP28,243,000
8. Development Academy of the Philippines — PHP23,838,000
9. Philippine National Oil Co. Exploration Corp. — PHP14,518,000
10. Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority — PHP14,406,000
Keep in mind that aside from the ones on this list, 21 more government agencies are being asked to return the bonuses they gave two years ago.
We’re pretty sure the “returns” won’t happen overnight. Most (if not all) of those who got their “unauthorized” bonuses probably spent them already.
