3-month ban on cutting coconut trees now in effect

Spread the coconuts love!

Philippine Coconut Authority Administrator Billy Andal signed a national moratorium imposing a ban on cutting our favorite trees.

Coconut trees cannot be cut for three months starting Jan 3, except in Basilan province and Isabella City, which are exempted from the moratorium because of the Coconut Scale Insect or cocolisap.

“We have to impose a moratorium because Republic Act 8048 is not effectively enforced. It is as if the coco loggers are just making fun of us; they are not taking it seriously. I think it is time to put my foot down on this issue,” Andal said in a report by the Manila Bulletin.

The ban is meant to help preserve and conserve coconut trees in the country.
