3 Germans nabbed for being UST lecturers sans visas, permits

This incident actually involves three countries: Germany (from where the three lecturers came from), the Philippines (where the lecturers stayed), and Switzerland (where the informant hails from).

“On Monday, Feb 17, the Bureau of Immigration disclosed that three German tourists—Eric Swehla, 45; Hermann Siebdrat, 54; and Klaus Peter Neuhrich, 73—were arrested over the weekend for working as lecturers at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) without the necessary visas and permits,” reports Jocelyn R. Uy in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Swehla, Siebdrat, and Neuhrich were arrested at the Thomas Aquinas Research Center on the UST campus on Saturday morning, Feb 15. The report revealed that “the arrests were made based on a complaint filed by a Swiss national identified as Herbert Joseph Vogt.”

In any case, during the interrogation done by the BI representatives, the three Germans admitted that they arrived in the country as tourists and, indeed, didn’t have the necessary permits to teach. They’ve been charged for violating the conditions stipulated in their tourist visas.
