May they find the peace that eluded them in life.
“On Monday, March 23, the Philippine embassy in Malaysia confirmed in a statement that three Filipino youths were killed during immigration operations by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) against undocumented individuals at the Lahad Datu public market last Saturday, March 21,” reports InterAksyon.com.
The report noted: “The victims were identified as Nordin Akang, 16, Lahudin Nasir, 17, and Alex Nasir, 18, of Kampung Bakau, Lahad Datu. They are brothers.”
The statement read: “The Philippine embassy is deeply concerned about this turn of events, and even as the cause of the deaths of the three Filipinos, two of whom are minors, are being investigated, the embassy calls for humane treatment of undocumented individuals, including the manner by which operations are conducted.”
The statement then revealed that “a three-person team from the Philippine embassy in Kuala Lumpur was dispatched to and is currently in Lahad Datu to look into the deaths.”
The said team met the victims’ relatives on Sun afternoon, Mar 22. They then conferred with ESSCOM and police authorities on Mon morning, Mar 23.
The report recalled that “Lahad Datu was the site of a standoff between Malaysia’s security forces and claimants of Sabah from Tawi-Tawi, led by the brother of Sultan of Sulu, now deceased Jamalul Kiram III, in February 2013.”
It was reported back then that “the armed group of about 235, calling themselves the ‘Royal Security Forces of the Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo,’ went there to assert the unresolved territorial claim of the Philippines to eastern Sabah.” Eventually, Malaysian security forces attacked and routed them.
