25 fake evacuees rounded up at Villamor Air Base

Turns out there has been more than just one rotten apple (see the guy who took selfies from a stolen cellphone) at the relief effort in Villamor Air Base since last week.

“Soldiers arrested 25 people who posed as evacuees and relief workers to steal relief goods at the Philippine Air Force (PAF) headquarters in Pasay City,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

PAF spokesman Col. Miguel Ernesto Okol said its military police contingent rounded up the 25 suspects in separate instances between Nov 16 and No 25.

Most of the time, the suspects posed as evacuees, but upon verification with the flight manifest, it turned out that they managed to sneak into the crowd of Yolanda victims. Others posed as social workers.

The arrests include the five people arrested on Saturday for attempting to take away at least 15 relief bags.

Okol said the 25 suspects were turned over to the Pasay police, who will initiate legal action.
